I think my favorite tribute to Charles Schultz is Heathcliff, which manages to combine Lucy and the football and Ham.

Crabgrass does a good job as well, with Tahuda Bondia capturing the faces and body language very well... while still keeping the ongoing story line and using a non-Peanuts joke. It's a Crabgrass strip using a different art style. I respect that.

Heart of the City makes the Lucy Football Gag its own as well. Heart doesn't yank the ball away out of cruelty, it's a case of misunderstanding. The pratfall is the same.

Arlo and Janis may possibly be doing a deep cut of a Peanuts comic from 1987.

There's two types of people in the world: those who have planned difficult and involved family/group meals and those who have not.

There's two types of people in the world: those who understand that certain female-coded tasks are difficult and require skill and experience, and those that don't.

There's two types of people in the world: those who know when to shut up and those who don't.

Pretty sure you can figure out which one Gene Wallace is.

Crabgrass, like Wallace the Brave, is one of the best new comics to be syndicated.

This is a great example of why. The kids are having a conversation that could be easily portrayed by them sitting around and talking or walking and talking or doing something else that's just... keeps the focus on them talking and only talking.

Instead we see them acting. We see the relationship between Kevin and his twin sister Krystal (he steals her stuff and destroys it), his older brother Kyle who is probably babysitting him (slouched down in a chair watching tv, ignoring him and baby Kody), sneaking around, getting fireworks, and exploding something. Miles goes along with it, not an active participant but not objecting either. They're casually doing something wrong and dangerous and very 80s (the time in which the comic is set).
